So I’ve just discovered that I am allergic to wheat. It certainly explains a lot with symptoms I’ve had for a long time. Wheat allergy…who knew? Time for a bit of a lifestyle change! Instead of wasting time mourning for what was, I figured TODAY is a good day to just deal with it and start making healthier choices for myself when it comes to food. A friend told me about a great app, Fooducate, that lets you scan bar codes and get information about what’s in foods and whether or not they contain common allergens.
I got to work on my pantry this afternoon and it soon became apparent that I had a lot of learning to do. It’s surprising how many foods you would not expect to contain wheat actually do. Some things in the pantry are staying because other family members will eat them, but a whole lot of “good” food is getting donated to the food bank this week.
This whole “eating with an allergy” thing absolutely has a financial component. Making different choices of what food to purchase is going to make a difference in our food budget. We have to make this as affordable as possible. Things are tight but we’ve got to make this work.
The good news is that this is a great opportunity to focus on health, get in great shape, make some great-tasting food, and somehow afford it all. My mission is to figure out how to do all this and still make ends meet. It’s going to be an interesting year, for sure! Wish me luck!
Ya know, this aging thing has been on my mind lately. I have (had?) one of those really young faces, good skin etc. But at a certain point, a girl needs some help. At forty-something, I’m starting to see things that weren’t there before. I’m wanting to use foundation more often, but not really wanting to look or feel like I am. I like a fresh, natural look, but more often these days, going “natural” for me means not looking the way I want.
I was thrilled to be invited to the BzzAgent campaign for the new COVERGIRL & Olay Tone Rehab 2-in-1 Foundation. They sent me the foundation and pressed powder. I can be a make-up snob sometimes, but I have to as I was very pleased with the results. It just took one pump from the foundation to evenly cover my face. It felt GREAT. Very light and smooth, and it really has reduced the effects of aging on my face. Even when using the powder, it’s so nice and smooth that the powder doesn’t settle into wrinkkes making me look even worse. Just glides right on top, reduces shine and gives me the fresh, non “made-up” look that I’m looking for.
I have got to give COVERGIRL an “A” on this one.
